Mind Harbor Labs
Our Story & Vision
Helping new players go from curious to table-ready, calmly and with confidence.
The problem
American Mah Jongg looks friendly but feels hard to start: 152 tiles, a new card every year, the Charleston, and fast tables where beginners worry about slowing everyone down. Most people learn only if a friend teaches them.
Our approach
Short lessons that always show what's next, then a guided first hand with Lin, a mentor who explains each move and steps back as you improve. Every table shows who just discarded and who called, so you never miss a play. Practice drills, a table companion for real games, and a directory of welcoming tables in our NYC pilot.
Respecting the League
The National Mah Jongg League sets the rules and publishes the official card. We teach with a clearly marked fictional practice card, never reproduce real card hands, and point players to buy the official card.
Mindful by design
No streaks, guilt prompts, point grinding or casino effects. We favor the feel of real tiles, gentle sound, mentor guidance and confidence you can bring to a real table.
Where we're headed
Getting started stays free: five short lessons, a first guided hand with Lin and the core Know the Rule pack. Our proposed Table Pass supports ongoing games, broader practice and advanced table tools; a separate teacher and club subscription supports future teaching tools. We're also growing the directory city by city with players' help.
Practice is free for now. Subscriptions are proposed, not on sale.
